WordCounterOrg is a word counter and a grammar checker. That is the whole product, and keeping it to that is a deliberate choice rather than an unfinished roadmap.
Why it exists
Most online word counters are built around English and split text on spaces. That approach reports a paragraph of Chinese as one word, breaks Devanagari clusters, and counts a single emoji as several characters. It also tends to arrive surrounded by sign-in prompts, extension banners and thirty toggles nobody asked for.
This one uses the Unicode segmentation already built into your browser, in the language you choose, and puts the editor at the top of the page with the counts beside it.
What it does not do
There is no plagiarism checker, no AI detector, no paraphraser, no essay generator, no summariser and no account system. Each of those is a different product making a different set of promises, and bolting them on would make the counter worse rather than the site better.
How the numbers are decided
Every derived figure is stated with its assumption. Reading speeds come from a published meta-analysis and vary by language rather than being one global number. Readability is reported for English only, because the Flesch formulas count English syllables and applying them elsewhere produces an authoritative-looking number that means nothing. Where a convention is contested — whether a hyphenated compound is one word, where a sentence ends after an abbreviation — the choice is documented on the home page and covered by automated tests.
Privacy as an architectural choice
Counting runs in your browser because it can, which means your drafts never reach a server and the tool keeps working with no connection. Thegrammar checker holds to the same rule: it downloads its engine once and then checks your writing locally, rather than shipping your draft to a language service the way such tools usually do.
