How the grammar checker works
Paste your text, pick the variety of English you write in, and run the check. Each issue is underlined in the text and listed beside it with a short explanation, the sentence it appeared in, and any suggested replacements. Accepting a suggestion rewrites just that span and leaves the rest of your writing alone; dismissing one removes it from the list without touching the text.
The dialect setting is not cosmetic. It decides whether colour and organise are spellings or mistakes, and it is remembered for your next visit. The checker handles English only; for other languages the word counter still works in full.
Issues are grouped by type — grammar, spelling, punctuation and style — because they deserve different levels of trust. A misspelling is usually a fact. A style suggestion is an opinion, and you are entitled to disagree with it.
What a grammar checker can and cannot do
An automated checker is very good at the mechanical layer of writing: agreement errors, missing articles, doubled words, misplaced commas, confusable pairs like its and it's. It is far less good at meaning. It cannot tell you that your second paragraph contradicts your first, that an argument does not follow, or that a sentence is grammatical but says the opposite of what you intended.
It also produces false positives, particularly on technical vocabulary, proper nouns, quoted speech and deliberate stylistic choices. Treat every suggestion as a question rather than an instruction — that is exactly why this tool asks you to accept each one rather than applying them silently.
What happens to your text
Nothing. The checker itself is downloaded to your browser the first time you press the button — the dictionary and the rules, not your writing — and from then on the analysis runs on your own machine. Your text is never sent anywhere, is never stored, and is never seen by us or by anyone else. You can watch the network tab while you check: the only request is for the checker.
That has two practical consequences. The first check after opening the page takes a few seconds longer, because the engine has to arrive before it can work. After that, checking keeps working with no connection at all.
Fixing the mistakes that keep coming back
The value of a checker is not the individual correction; it is the pattern. If the same category keeps appearing, that is a rule worth learning once instead of fixing forever. The recurring offenders in English are comma splices (two full sentences joined by a comma), apostrophes in plurals, subject–verb agreement across a long intervening clause, and their/there/they're.
Reading a draft aloud catches a surprising share of what a checker flags, and everything it misses about rhythm. Checking the average sentence length of a draft is a fast proxy for the same thing.
